  Your First Visit...

"Our goal is to correct the problem and return the basic functions of the body to normal, thereby improving health.  Being 'well adjusted' is the best thing you can do to maintain good health."

There are a couple of things you should expect during your first visit.

How Long Will it Take?

Dr. Maxwell typically sets aside 45-60 minutes in his schedule to review a new patient's health history, complaints, and to do an examination with x-rays.  If you do not fill our the patient intake forms before your first visit, please plan on coming in 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment for paperwork.
What Should I Bring?

Current insurance card and state issued picture ID
Filled out patient intake forms
A list of any prescription or over-the-counter medications and supplements you are taking
If you have them, any x-rays from another doctor that have been taken within the past year

Spinal X-Rays

X-rays are taken on most patients.  There are reasons why we would not take x-rays on certain patients including pregnancy, recent usable spinal x-rays, and some other various situations.  These x-rays are a common part of the examination process and give us important information including the position of the spinal bones, the quality of the spine and safety of adjusting it.  With this important information we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs and it will aid in determining the initial frequency of your care.  Your need for spinal x-rays will be determined during the examination of your spine by Dr. Maxwell.

The Examination

Dr. Maxwell will perform a physical assessment of your spine.  He will exam your posture, check your range of motion for limitations, evaluate your spinal alignment, and perform a comprehensive orthopedic evaluation, which are exercises that bend the body in certain positions to check for pain response.  This physical evaluation will help paint the picture of your overall spine health and allow us to develop a treatment plan.

Will I Be Treated On My First Visit?

In our office, most patients will receive treatment for the reduction of swelling in the area of complaint.  A patient might not be adjusted during the first visit if an adjustment is contraindicated or if Dr. Maxwell feels the patient would be better served by a different form of treatment.  Remember your health is our number one concern.
